MING PAO NEWS FEATURE
Summary:
MetTactics, a Hong Kong-based startup, has gained media exposure in Ming Pao News for its groundbreaking chip technology that captures and identifies cancer cells with metastatic potential. Developed by a team led by Professor Wong S.T. from the University of Hong Kong, the chip, known as MoC, enables early detection of cancer cells that have the ability to spread, aiding in precise medication for cancer patients. With over 10 years of research and development, MetTactics has successfully commercialized this technology, offering a significant reduction in cost compared to previous methods. The chip, which resembles the size of a five-cent coin, contains a protein coating that "captures" high-risk cancer cells as bodily fluids flow through it. MetTactics aims to expand the application of the chip to diagnose various types of cancer, including ovarian, colorectal, gastric, lung, and breast cancer. The company is collaborating with Queen Mary Hospital to collect patient samples for more accurate data and plans to apply for clinical use in early 2024. MetTactics also has plans to enter international markets, with production lines already established in mainland China, Europe, and the United States.
